A Prince George toy shop has been back in business for nearly two weeks following deep sanitization after several employees contracted COVID-19.
Mastermind Toys confirms to PrinceGeorgeMatters that six of its local employees tested positive for the virus after it was notified of a single case on Dec. 30, 2020, forcing the store to close on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).
Spokesperson Susan Anderson explains that person last worked on Dec. 27 and everyone who had contact with them had self-isolated for 14 days.
The employees were also advised to seek further testing if they developed symptoms for the virus.
Mastermind Toys reopened its doors on Jan. 7 after the facility had been ‘comprehensively sanitized.’
Anderson says everyone’s safety remains top of mind for the nation-wide company and is continuing to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines from local health authorities.
She adds the following measures are in place:
- Reduced store capacity limits
- Physical distancing protocols
- Mandatory masks for employees and customers
- Hand sanitizing stations at store entrances
- Frequent cleaning of high touch surfaces
- Thorough disinfection of stores before opening and after closing each day
As of this publication (Jan. 19), Northern Health has detected 2,911 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases since March last year, which has included 52 deaths.
The numbers also show 16 people in critical care among 40 total hospitalizations and 2,311 recoveries.
Active cases in the region are not fully determined as the authority continues to make a system switch.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is scheduled to provide an update on the pandemic’s situation in B.C. some time after 3 p.m. today.
