Two COVID-19 exposure events in two weeks at DP Todd Secondary

This is the SD57 member's third alert since the pandemic began

For a second time in as many weeks, a Prince George school has been flagged for a COVID-19 exposure event.

DP Todd Secondary is now being alerted for Jan. 11 and 12, when students, staff and its community possibly came into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

This is in addition to the School District 57 (SD57) facility's first exposure after winter break between Jan. 4 and 6.

Altogether, DP Todd has been marked three times for an exposure event since students returned to the classroom; its initial warning was for Dec. 1 and 2.

Since the pandemic began, 18 Prince George-based schools have been flagged at least once by Northern Health for a COVID-19 exposure event.

In total, 15 members associated with SD57 have been or are currently under the authority's watch.

Fort Nelson Secondary (SD81) was also alerted a third time for a COVID-19 exposure event on Jan. 11, while Houston Secondary (SD54) is listed for the first time for Jan. 11 to 13.

Northern Health's school-exposure section explains students should still go to school "if you do not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health," but you're also encouraged to monitor symptoms daily.

  • Contact tracing is initiated to determine how the individual was infected and who they were in close contact with
  • We identify and notify close contacts who may be at an increased risk, and advise them to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms for 14 days
  • Only Public Health can determine who is a close contact
    • Learning groups, friends or other connections may not be determined to be a close contact
  • Public Health staff works closely with the school and school district throughout the case and contact management process to maintain close communication with the school community

As of this publication (Jan. 18), Northern Health has found 2,911 COVID-19 infections since March last year.

Four more people died from the virus this past weekend, increasing the death toll to 52.

There are currently 16 people in critical care out of 40 total hospitalizations in the north and 2,311 people have recovered.
