If you were hoping to squeeze in one final skate on Prince George’s Outdoor Ice Oval before the new decade, you’re out of luck.

Mother Nature’s recent mild conditions in the northern capital has forced the Ice Oval to close and subsequently cancel its New Year’s Eve skate, originally scheduled for tonight (Dec. 31) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

According to an email from the Outdoor Ice Oval Society, the facility will be closed ‘for the next few days.’

However, its website indicates it hopes to reopen the oval once again for the public by Thursday (Jan. 2) and Friday (Jan. 3).

The Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval has seen 6,000 visits since its official opening on Nov. 30.

Today’s closure is the second for the oval this season and comes 10 days after the first one between Dec. 18 and 21.
