A man reported missing while kayaking near Prince George with a friend has been found.
Cpl. Craig Douglass says RCMP received a report at roughly 2 a.m. this morning (Aug. 5) of a missing kayaker on the Willow River, just east of the city.
Douglass says two men went kayaking on a portion of the river yesterday afternoon (Aug. 4) with the planned route roughly 30 km, ending where the river intersects with Highway 16.
One of the men didn't show up at the endpoint.
RCMP as well as the Prince George Search and Rescue (PGSAR) team were mobilized to try and find the man with patrols continuing through the night.
At first light, PGSAR and RCMP mobilized its Air 3 helicopter.
Douglass says at roughly 8:30 a.m. this morning, the missing man was found and appeared to have no major injuries but was airlifted to meed paramedics to be checked over.
"This incident should be a reminder to the public that our river systems are very high and very fast-moving," Douglass said in a release.
"All water activities on rivers is in our area are discouraged. If persons choose to participate in activities on rivers in our area, all precautions, especially life jackets, should be taken."
