Close to 40 more homes are being put on alert southwest of Prince George due to rising water levels in the Chilako River.
Last night (April 24), the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) issued an evacuation alert for 36 residences Lower Mud River Road, asking people to prepare for a potential order should it be needed.
This came a day after 40 homes were ordered to evacuate due to the Chilako River flooding by warmer temperatures, all of which were encouraged to leave immediately.
According to the RDFFG, flooding has already taken place in this area north of Highway 16 west and according to Environment Canada’s Saturday (April 25) forecast, there’s a risk of a thunderstorm and up to 20 mm of rain in the afternoon.
The following precautions are being encouraged to prevent property damage and increase personal safety:
- Move equipment and farm implements to higher ground
- Make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to safe locations
- Gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to alternate locations
- Prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family
The public is being reminded once again to be extremely cautious near rivers and streams as unpredictable high water-flows can cause bank instability.
