New cases confirmed across three Prince George COVID-19 outbreak sites

There are a number of new COVID-19 infections confirmed in three outbreaks at Northern Health facilities in Prince George.

According to the authority, Jubilee Lodge continues to be severely impacted by the virus since its outbreak was first declared on Dec. 12.

One new case was found in a staff member at the long-term care facility for a grand total of 61, which includes 48 residents and 13 staff.

Devastatingly, 14 residents who had tested positive have died during the outbreak, including two that were confirmed by Northern Health on Monday (Jan. 11).

As of today (Jan. 13), nine of the Jubliee Lodge resident cases remain active while 25 are considered recovered.

Overall, northern B.C. has seen 47 virus-linked deaths in under a year through the pandemic.

Meanwhile, University Hospital of Northern BC's (UHNBC) Internal Medicine Unit (IMU) is also battling a significant outbreak in place since Dec. 29.

As of today, 10 new cases have been detected, including one new staff member and nine patients, for a new total of 31 people broken down among 19 patients and 12 staff.

In a Jan. 5 statement, Northern Health confirmed that one IMU patient succumbed to the virus associated with this outbreak.

There are also two new cases confirmed in UHNBC’s Rehabilitation Unit; its outbreak was first declared Jan. 4.

A total of three COVID-19 infections have been found, all among patients.

Today, Northern Health added 45 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, per the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), sadly including four more deaths.

The regional total since March 2020 sits at 2,651 with 16 people admitted into critical care among 38 total hospitalizations and 2,105 recoveries.
