A northern B.C. post-secondary school has reached an agreement with 200 of its support staff.
A new collective contract at Northern Lights College (NLC) has been ratified, the provincial government announced this morning (Feb. 4).
The deal, made with the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) Local 710, is good for the next three years and includes an annual wage increase of two per cent between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2022.
The province also says the agreement comes with "modest funds negotiated to support staff development and training, to address a shortage of skilled workers and to provide employees with skill upgrades to support more complex positions in the future."
NLC has campuses in seven communities in the region, including Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Dease Lake and Atlin.
Support staff includes those in information technology, administration, lab support, facilities, library support and other areas of the post-secondary school.
A statement from B.C.'s finance ministry also states this agreement is consistent with its commitment to balanced budgets and sound fiscal management.
