Newly released data reveals Canadians will spend an estimated $1 billion on Canada Day this year, but only one third of the country (31 per cent) plan to spend money celebrating.

That leaves just over two thirds of Canadian adults (69 per cent) with no plans to spend any money celebrating Canada Day, likely influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on large events and gatherings.

The data released by Finder.com shows about 9.2 million Canadian adults plan to spend an average of $91 on the holiday.

Men and women were found to be equally as likely to spend money on Canada Day (both at 31 per cent), but men are planning to spend an average of $95 - about $8 more than the average women are planning to spend.

Canada's youngest adults are the most likely to spend money this Canada Day, with millennials leading the charge at 41 per cent, followed by Gen Z at 39 per cent and Gen X at 33 per cent.

Ontario is the province most likely to open their wallets to celebrate, with 40 per cent planning to spend an average of $109.

Quebec residents are the least likely to celebrate (16 per cent), but those who do plan to estimate an average spend of $79.
