A man accused of armed robbery at an A&W Restaurant in Fort Nelson almost 2 1/2 years ago was denied bail on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

In a Williams Lake provincial court video hearing, Ian David Thomas McMillan, 40, sought release to attend a drug recovery program.

For the Sept. 8, 2022 incident, McMillan also faces charges of pointing a firearm, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and wilfully obstructing a peace officer.

McMillan was released on bail conditions, including electronic monitoring and attendance at a drug treatment program, on Nov. 1, 2022. He is accused of breaching curfew, leaving the  recovery facility and failing to report to a bail supervisor.

He was allegedly at large for four months until police, executing a search warrant, found him hiding in a hotel room on Nov. 23, 2024.

McMillan is presumed innocent and has no criminal record, but Judge Scott Mulder agreed with a Crown prosecutor that it was in the public interest for him to remain in custody.

Arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 24.
