A 24-year-old driver’s joy ride along the Hart Highway last week resulted in a hefty fine and the loss of his vehicle for seven days.
Prince George RCMP say on Thursday morning (Feb. 20) before 9 a.m., its Municipal Traffic Services Section clocked the pick-up driver at 152 km/h in a 70 km/h stretch of Highway 97 in the region, which is more than double the posted limit.
Officers pulled him over and the Prince George resident was issued a $483 excessive speeding ticket and his pick-up truck impounded for seven days.
According to Cpl. Craig Douglass, more penalties may be imposed by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles and/or ICBC.
“This incident is a clear disregard for the safety of all road users, including himself,” says Douglass in a release this morning (Feb. 25).
“Any number of things could have easily caused a serious collision that almost certainly would have caused at least one death. There is no excuse for his actions.”
He adds it was -1 C when the violation occurred, meaning the road conditions could have taken a turn for the worse at that rate of speed.
