While publication may have ended for the Alaska Highway News, the City of Fort St. John recognized the newspaper’s 2023 People’s Choice Awards at their November 14 meeting.

Best Community Event went to High on Ice organizer Eryn Griffith, a winter festival held every year in the North Peace, Best City Councillor went to Trevor Bolin, while Best Civic Leader went to Mayor Lilia Hansen.

“This isn’t a fact, but I’m pretty sure you’re the only mayor who’s received this award,” said Bolin. “So, I think that’s above and beyond.”

Best RCMP Officer was awarded to Constable Wright and Best Fire Fighter to Matt Crompton with the Fort St. John department.

“I’m personally going to miss our Alaska Highway News, it has been such a big part of our community and the work that they have done - so thank you to all those that are keeping the writing up and keeping our community informed, it is appreciated and it is needed,” said Hansen.
