Northern Health and School District #57 to help kindergarten students get a healthy start

Protecting children against childhood illness and ensuring they have a healthy future is the focus of the 15th annual Health Day Circuit for local kindergarten students.

Protecting children against childhood illness and ensuring they have a healthy future is the focus of the 15th annual Health Day Circuit for local kindergarten students.

Sponsored by Northern Health and School District #57, the program will run from January 11 to January 27 at the Northern Interior Health Unit in Prince George and as many as 1,000 youngsters are expected to show up.

The circuit is a one-stop venue for immunization, vision, dental and hearing screenings, as well as injury prevention, tobacco reduction and nutritional information. Parents are offered further support if their child is found to be in need.

"The Health Day Circuit is an opportunity to bring parents, children and service providers together in a way that makes it most convenient for everyone involved," said public health nursing program manager Karen Wonders, "It's a fun and effective way to help parents assess the health of their kindergarten-aged children."

The Northern Interior Health Unit is located at 1444 Edmonton Street, across from University Hospital of Northern B.C., and the circuit will be set up in the auditorium.

For more information about appointment times call the Northern Interior Health Unit at 565-7381.
