Three patients suffering from COVID-19 in the Northern Health region are in intensive care , numbers from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control for Wednesday are showing.
That's an increase of two over the previous 24 hours, while the number of hospitalizations stood at five, up by one. Intensive care patients are included in the number of hospitalizations.
The number of active cases stood at 41, up by three from Tuesday.
In a joint statement, provincial health officer Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix put the running tally for the region at 164 since the pandemic took hold. Province-wide, 104 new cases were announced for the previous 24 hours, offset by 100 more recoveries leaving 1,127 active cases.
The number of hospitalizations rose by two to 33 with 14 of them in intensive care, an increase of four.
A further 2,786 people were under monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, up by 25 from Tuesday. A count for Northern Health was not provided.
Deaths held steady at 209. A death from the virus is yet to be recorded in Northern Health.
With the vacation season coming to an end and school about to start, Henry and Dix urged people to "get back to basics" with COVID-19 safety measures.
"We need to redouble our efforts to ensure our layers of protection are always part of our daily routines - for everyone in our family. This will allow us to push our curve down once again.
"Take some time to think about your personal circumstances and those of your family. Who may be vulnerable to severe illness and what are you doing to protect them? With each of us doing our part, we can protect our communities, our elders and our loved ones.
"Let's choose to keep our groups small. Let's choose to be the person that stays home when we are ill and let's choose to be safe each and every day while COVID-19 remains in our communities."
