Northern Health board continued its objective to improve healthcare across the North by focusing on staff and physicians during its June meeting in Smithers.

"That is the foundation for creating lasting and high quality health services throughout the region, and we are building momentum that is the envy of the province," said Dr. Charles Jago, board chair.

He was referring to a human resources report to the board that identified a number of positive trends happening in the North.

They include reduced staff injuries, improved leadership which is stabilizing positions and roles, and successful recruitment practices that has resulted in fewer vacant positions.

Cathy Ulrich, CEO of NH, added "The partnership between Northern Health and UNBC and community colleges is making a significant difference in our ability to recruit and retain professionals."

Achievements in the Northern Cancer Control Strategy outlined by its executive director, Dr. Ronald Chapman included visits with community councils and stakeholders and installation of a web cam and web page for the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North slated for completion in September, 2012.
