Northern Health reports 106 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours

Northern Health is reporting 106 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 573 active cases in the region.

There are currently 59 people hospitalized with the virus in Northern Health, 17 of whom are in critical care.

Meanwhile, B.C. in total is reporting 555 new cases and 4,321 active cases in the province. Of the active cases, 404 individuals are currently in hospital and 117 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There have also been 11 new COVID-19 deaths reported in the province, however, none of those deaths occurred in Northern Health.

Northern Health also declared the COVID-19 outbreaks at the University Hospital of Northern B.C.’s internal medicine ward and primary medical units over today (Nov. 10).

The outbreaks were first declared on Sept. 24 and Oct. 4. In total, 34 patients and 11 staff members connected to the outbreak tested positive for COVID-19 and a total of four patients died as a result of the outbreak.

The province now has a total of 29 healthcare facility outbreaks.

From Nov. 2-8, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 63.1 per cent of cases in the province and from Oct. 26 to Nov. 8 they accounted for 70.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

B.C. is also reporting that as of Nov. 10 90.5 per cent or 4,195,116 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.4 per cent or 4,003,628 received their second dose.

In addition, 90.9 per cent or 3,932,843 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 87.0 per cent or 3,760,978 received their second dose.
