Northern Interior COVID-19 cases dip, Northwest B.C. skyrockets

Northern Interior sees less than 30 cases during a seven-day period

It's good news for the Northern Interior but startling for the northwest. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery Area of Case Residence data released by the BCCDC, the interior region, which includes Prince George, recorded just 24 cases of the virus from Feb. 26 to March 4, 2021. 

During the same time frame, northwest B.C. has been rocked, recording a whopping 193 cases. 

Northeast B.C. also saw relatively low caseloads with 56. 

From Jan. 1, 2020, to March 4, 2021, the Northern Interior sits at 1,935 recorded cases while the northeastern part of the province has detected 1,092 infections. 

The northwest area comes in at 1,758 cases. 

As of this publication, Northern Health has seen a total of 4,799 infections since March 14, 2020, when the first two cases were discovered in the authority. 

Active cases have risen to 294 with 23 currently hospitalized across the health region, 12 of which are in ICU or critical care. 

A total of 109 lives have been lost to the virus while 4,385 cases have been classified as fully recovered.

Concerns throughout the province continue to rise as there were 634 new cases of COVID-19 discovered yesterday (March 5), which marks the highest single-day case count since January 7, 2021.
