As B.C. cracked 900 cases in a single day this past week, concerns are also rising in the north.
The latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery of Case Residence data shows, from March 18-24, 2021, the northwest area of the province saw 174 cases, as health officials continue to stop transmission and clusters in the region.
The new numbers were released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) on Friday (March 26).
The northern interior, which includes Prince George, recorded 52 cases during the same reporting period, while the northeast tallied 96.
Northwest B.C. has now recorded the most COVID-19 infections since the start of the pandemic with 2,328, surpassing the northern interior's total of 2,043.
The northeast has seen 1,271.
According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence, Prince George recorded 39 cases from March 14-20, 2021.
Its local health area had been in the lower 30s weeks prior.
Meanwhile, Prince Rupert continues to surge with 113 cases during the same time period.
Peace River South sits at 74; its neighbour, Peace River North, saw 25 cases.
As of this publication (March 27), Northern Health has a recorded total of 5,777 cases since March of 2020.
There is 357 active cases across the region with 37 people currently hospitalized, 12 of which are in critical care/ICU.
The BCCDC says a total of 120 lives have been lost from the virus.
