Amanda Asay and Jared Young have become household names in Prince George and this weekend, they’ll be passing down their knowledge to the next generation.
The local athletes are lending a helping hand to Northern Baseball Training (NBT) for its 2019 Winter Camp at UNBC’s Northern Sport Centre.
The two-day session gives up-and-coming baseball or softball players the chance to stay in shape and train to prepare for the 2020 season.
NBT, run by Prince George residents Chris Clark, Doug Clark and Brandon Hunter, are bringing in Asay and Young as special guests to the third annual event.
They’re set to teach registered participants everything from pitching and catching to batting and fielding, while also sharing experiences from their respective professional careers in the sport.
Asay is a 14-year veteran of Canada’s national women’s baseball team, punching the team’s ticket to an eighth World Cup next year after finishing in third at the Pan-Am Games in Mexico this past summer.
The 31-year-old has won six medals with Team Canada including two silvers.

Young is a prospect of the Chicago Cubs after they picked him in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft (MLB) and played this year with the franchise’s AA affiliate in Tennessee, two steps down from the pros.
It’s the highest-level of baseball the 24-year-old has suited up thus far, and Young was able to record a second straight 50-plus RBI season along with 107 hits and five home-runs.
The Winter Baseball Camp takes place Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Dec. 28 for two hours each day.
There’s a $125 fee, which includes an NBT t-shirt.
