On Our Radar: Prince George cross-country skiers put to the test on Grand Tour of Caledonia

Without a doubt, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club (CNSC) boasts one of the most beautiful layouts in B.C. for skiers, snowshoers and the general public.

We’re biased, of course, as most Prince George residents have gone out to explore the world-class facility, especially after it hosted the 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships.

The organization is now set to showcase its tracks once again, but this time through a challenge that’ll pin cross-country skiers against the clock and the virtual competition.

Dubbed the Grand Tour of Caledonia, the event will cover 12 different courses in a 12-week span beginning Jan. 4, 2021 at Otway.

According to the CNSC, no two courses will be the same as the goal is to display different parts of the facility, while also adhering to social distancing guidelines and public health orders.

Skiers will race the course at any time in a given week and must upload their results to the Zone4 timing website.

Medals will be given to those that complete all 12 courses, as well as prizes drawn for registered participants.

There’s a $40 fee for the Grand Tour of Caledonia, free toque included.

Registration opens on Monday (Dec. 21) via the Zone4 website.
