It appears Prince George’s popular outdoor movie theatre is scheduled to reopen roughly three months earlier than it did in 2020.

Local residents are likely to smile cheek to cheek when the Park Drive-In Theatre opens over the Valentine’s Day weekend and it's got a couple of blockbusters to begin the 2021 season.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the 1991 cartoon that brought $440.1 million at the box office, will take the big screen on Feb. 12.

This will be followed by the second-highest-grossing film of all time, Avatar at $2.79 billion, on Feb. 13.

Both shows begin at 6 p.m. on their respective nights.

Last year, Park Drive-In opened on May 1 as a result of the uncertainty of COVID-19 and in addition to movies, it showed encore performance of big music concerts.

Since March 26, 2020, the Prince George theatre has adjusted its services to meet public health and safety guidelines, which has included limiting parking spaces and ticket purchases to create more space.

The business says concession will have a reduced menu to only popcorn, hot dogs, candy and drinks, and is asking the public to support local in pandemic times instead of bringing your own food.

Guests are also asked to stay in their vehicles as much as possible.

Other measures include:

  • No cash on-site to avoid contact between guests and staff
  • Social-distancing markers in the lobby area
  • Wearing masks if social distancing is not possible
  • Limiting bathroom access to two people in each
  • Hand sanitizing stations
  • Enhanced deep cleaning and sanitization procedures
