The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) is concluding its 50th anniversary season, but not before its final four concerts of the spring.

All of the upcoming concerts will be streamed, because of ongoing pandemic safety concerns.

“Although we are sorry that we are not able to perform LIVE and with our full orchestra, we are happy to be able to continue to present concerts through the medium of streaming,” said Teresa Saunders, PGSO General Manger, in a news release.

“We held off announcing our final concerts in case the BC Health Authority Orders changed to allow for indoor gatherings.  However, based on recent announcements, we have decided to continue streaming through the end of the season.”

She says one advantage of streaming concerts is that people can watch a concert as many times as they’d like for two weeks following the streaming date.

Without further adieu the final four concerts of the season are as follows:

The Arrival of Spring!

Nine musicians will play two pieces for wind quintet and string quartet: Nonet in E-flat major, Op. 38 by Louise Ferenc and Nonet in A-minor, Op 77a by George Onslow.

When: Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.

Spring!

Maestro Michael Hall and an eighteen-piece orchestra will play the beautiful Prelude de L’apre midi d’un Faune by Claude Debussy followed by Concerto no. 3, 1st movement by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart featuring twelve year-old soloist Luke Chen, winner of the PGSO’s 2020 Young Artists Competition.  The concert concludes with Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland. This concert is sponsored by Dan and Cindy Marcotte of Marcotte Law.

When: Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.

Peter and the Wolf

The whole family will enjoy this special performance of Sergei Prokoviev’s Peter and the Wolf, conducted by Michael Hall and narrated by Doug Jones of Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

When: Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 2 p.m.

Splendorous Spring!

The final concert of the Season presents Mozart’s String Quintet, Divertimento in D Major, K136/125a and Paul Taffanel’s Woodwind Quintet as well as the world premiere of African Suite, composed by PGSO’s Acting Principal Violist Thomas Beckman.

When: Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per household for the three classics concerts and, because of a grant from the City of Prince George MyPG Grant Program, only $10 per household for Peter and the Wolf.

Tickets are available at  www.pgso.com or by phone at 250-562-0800 or in person at 2880 – 15th Ave. from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
