With drive-in theatre’s being one of the few things you can do as a group while social distancing, the opening of Park Drive-in Theatre is much anticipated.
The theatre announced in mid-April that it would be reopening for the season, but following a few new guidelines to accommodate social distancing while we’re in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first film of the season will be the Oscar-winning Korean movie Parasite, which won best picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. The movie will be shown on Friday, May 1.
Then on Saturday, May 2 you can catch the classic film from 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
The family-friendly movie Trolls will be playing on Sunday, May 3.
The drive-in is going to be open all summer long with movies playing Thursdays through Sundays. You’ll also be able to get some treats like popcorn and mini-donuts!
In a Facebook post announcing its plans to open, the theatre says it will be taking the following steps to promote safety:
- It will be limiting attendance to half capacity and using every second parking space
- It will be opening more days per week.
- There will be no cash transactions with Interac transactions only, tap available. The theatre is also working on a pre-purchase ticket system
- The concession will operate through a checklist with delivery to vehicle
- Social distancing will apply for bathroom use
- Hand sanitation stations will be available throughout the theatre
- There will be more frequent cleaning
- Park Drive-in will also show only one movie instead of the usual two movies to limit social interactions
- There will be a reduced admission price
The Park Drive-in is located at 9660 Raceway Rd and admission prices are set at $10 for anyone 13 and up, $8 for seniors, $5 for kids ages five to 12, and children under five are free. A whole carload of people is only $25.
