Hundreds of people descended on Barkerville this weekend for the gold rush town’s annual Old-Fashioned Victorian Christmas celebrations.
The bustling historic town, nestled in the mountains surrounded by snowcapped trees, was the perfect setting for the holiday festivities.
Father Christmas roamed the streets, as visitors dashed through town on a two-horse open sleigh.
Visitors could also catch a reading of A Christmas Carol or take in the lovely carols from the Q City Singers in the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
There were plenty of treats on hand. Visitors could decorate gingerbread cookies with the Goldfied Bakery in Barkerville School or stop into Mason and Daly to sip on Rummel’s famous mulled apple cider.
There was plenty of winter fun happening outside as well, including people cruising Main Street on a kicksled, or skating on the Pavilion ice rink, or sliding down the Shamrock tube run.
Old-Fashioned Victorian Christmas took place from Dec. 8 to 10. Admission was by either monetary or non-perishable food donation.
