Prince George has yet another new hotel as part of its downtown-core expansion.
Hyatt Place officially opened its doors today (Aug. 28) and is located next to the future site of the new pool near Seventh Avenue and Dominion Street.
Ron Mundi, President and Founder of Mundi Hotel Enterprises, was on hand for the occasion with his team and expressed his love for the community's support.
"Wow, what a wonderful day," he said. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for making the time to be here today."
“Prince George is a wonderful place, filled with friendly people, great neighborhoods, and is a hub of northern British Columbia businesses and activities. Our hotel is central to all of them and we are confident that Hyatt Place Prince George will exceed guest expectations and provide guests with everything they need while visiting the area.”
The hotel itself has 104 guestrooms and stands five-storeys tall and offers other amenities including:
- Breakfast featuring a variety of pre-packaged or individually wrapped hot and cold breakfast items to suit all needs
- The Market serving freshly prepared pre-packaged meals anytime, day or night
- The Placery featuring specialty coffees and premium beers, pre-packaged bar bites, as well as wines and cocktails
- Necessities program for forgotten items that guests can buy, borrow or enjoy for free
- Free Wi-Fi throughout hotel and guestrooms
- Fitness Center featuring cardio equipment with LCD touchscreens
- Indoor Pool enjoy a few laps in the heated indoor pool
“As Prince George continues to grow and thrive economically, we are excited to add to the momentum by welcoming the first Hyatt Place hotel to the area,” Interim General Manager Rajat Kadiyan added.
“With our smartly designed social spaces and guestrooms with separate work and sleep areas, our multitasking guests can easily accomplish what they need to do while on the road.”
Federal, provincial and local politicians were also on hand for the opening, all expressing their thanks for Prince George being chosen to have a Hyatt.
"I know that many of the people are standing here worked very hard every single day to attract investment, to create jobs, to make sure Prince George is an exceptional place to live in, raise your family and do all of those things," MLA of Prince George-Valemount Shirley Bond said.
"I want to welcome Ron [Mundi], the entire team and family to the neighbourhood and I say that because my office is just over about a block and we've watched this building from the beginning now to this exciting day.
"I want to thank you for having faith in our city, choosing a location, which will help to diversify our downtown, create jobs and welcome visitors to the city of Prince George."
Mayor Lyn Hall also expressed his gratitude to Mundi and his team for choosing the northern capital of B.C. and especially being accommodating to the city with the pool being built right next door.
"This is a really important day for us and Ron, thank you and welcome to Prince George," Lyn said. "It's significant for the city and we've been working long and hard over the years to create development in the downtown.
"And Ron, I want to tell you, when we heard you were coming to town, I wanted to make sure that we built you a pool for your hotel, so I hope you enjoy it.
"Thank you for your cooperation because we're right next store and it will be under construction for 18 months or so and we want to thank you for putting up with that."
