Police have recovered a pickup truck linked to Tuesday morning's gunplay incident near Fort St. James but the two suspects remain at large.

RCMP said Wednesday the search for the two remains a "high priority."

They said the truck, a black Ford F-350 was found abandoned some time after the incident at about 3 a.m. on North Road. Police have seized the vehicle and are combing it for evidence.

RCMP from the Fort St. James, Mackenzie and Takla detachments, as well as the emergency response team and the dog team were called in to help with what police have described as a "dynamic and fluid investigation."

"At the onset of this incident the RCMP have worked to ensure public safety remained paramount in our decision making and coordinated response and will continue to do so as the investigation unfolds," North District RCMP Assistant Supt. Brian Edmonds said in a statement.

"We have dedicated significant local and district resources to this investigation in an effort to identify those persons responsible."

Police said the suspects were attempting to steal some equipment from a North Road compound and collided with an empty logging truck in the process.

"Two men got out of their vehicle with long guns and made several shots at the logging truck, and a second logging truck that happened on the scene," RCMP said Tuesday. "The suspects fled in a logging truck but shortly after abandoned the logging truck and stole a Ford F350."

Two guns have also been recovered but say the suspects are still considered armed and dangerous.
