After years of delivering flowers to senior centres on her birthday, Prince George resident Jessica Adams is looking to do something even more special for Christmas.

She’s started a fundraiser called Adopt-a-Grandparent, via GoFundMe, which aims to give over 100 seniors a gift on Christmas Eve.

“I started a GoFundMe page to raise money and me and my friends are going to take that money to go buy presents and then hand wrap them deliver them on Christmas Eve,” says 18-year-old Adams.

“This year I decided to do something a little more for Christmas because not all seniors in the homes get visitors throughout the year, therefore, they won’t be receiving Christmas presents.”

She says she plans to deliver the gift to seniors at Simon Fraser Lodge, and wants to give items like socks, gloves, chapsticks and lotions.

As of this publication, Adam’s GoFundMe has already raised $1,143 of its $5,000 goal.

“I think it’s crazy to have already raised so much money,” says Adams. “My goal is $5,000, so I can average about $50 per present.”

She says she thinks the seniors will feel really cared for and excited, to know someone thought of them during the holidays.

“If it goes well this year, and obviously it already has a really good start to it, I would love to continue it every year,” says Adams. “I just want everyone to help me give the gift of giving.”
