Passenger numbers at Prince George Airport (YXS) flew to new heights in 2018.
The airport says they set an all-time record last year with a total of 506,486 travellers going through the facility.
It's the first time the airport has ever exceeded the half-million mark in its 77-year history at the terminal.
"Prince George Airport's passenger growth is an indication of the economic strength and importance in our area," President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority John Gibson says in a news release.
"We have been growing steadily and are continuing to rehabilitate and improve the airport to best serve the higher volume of passengers."
A total of four airlines offer schedules between 12 destinations including Victoria (seasonally), Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Puerto Vallarta from Prince George.
Over 28 businesses with over 200 employees also work from the airport such as charter helicopter companies, aircraft maintenance providers, and government agencies.
The airport was handed over from the federal government to the Prince George Airport Authority in 2003.
Projects completed since then have included expanding the departure lounge and baggage handling area, adding the international arrivals wing and services as well as runway extension and rehabilitation.
The passenger totals for the last five years are as follows:
- 506,486 (2018)
- 499,125 (2017)
- 462,007 (2016)
- 470,849 (2015) *Canada Winter Games
