Prince George celebrates winter with Pineview Snow Frolics 2025

The event features the return of the popular Outhouse Races

Celebrating 50 years, Pineview Snow Frolics will be in full swing Saturday, Feb. 1 through Sunday, Feb. 9 with all the usual events on the big-fun list with a classic making a comeback as organizers host the legendary Outhouse Races as the grand finale.

Presented by the Pineview Recreation Commission there’s something on the schedule for everyone, young and old.

Milk-Jug Curling starts things off Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There’s a pickleball tournament that takes place on Saturday, Feb. 1 and snow pitch goes both Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2.

There’s a crib tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Karaoke Night lands on Family Night Friday, Feb. 7, so everyone can get in on the musical fun. There’s a concession so come hungry.

Merchandise Bingo is set for Saturday, Feb. 8. Snowshoe Volleyball is on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 with a Pancake Breakfast set to cap everything off on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Next weekend sees all the Snowshoe Volleyball action spectators hand handle as well as children’s games and the Outhouse Races are on the list for Feb. 9.

“When this event started it was so the community could have something to do in the winter,” Linda Meise, a commission board member, said during a previous interview. “It was started by a woman named Karen Empey – she was really creative - and it started with snowshoe volleyball and grew from there.”

There has been many changes to what the Snow Frolics have looked like over the years including seeing logger sports at one time.

But one thing remains the same.

“This is an old-fashioned country fair,” Meise said. “And it’s fun for the whole family.”

This is the Pineview Recreation Commission’s biggest annual fundraiser and it helps offset the costs of the many programs offered to the community, including a preschool, seniors’ club, T-ball for the children and activities like floor curling, pickleball, yoga and fitness classes.
