Crews have completed work on a gas leak in the city and the streets in the area were expected to reopen by the early afternoon.
Fortis BC was called about a foul smell at 15th Avenue between Freeman and Ewert streets at about 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31.
Crews determined the source of the odour to be a leaking underground gas main. Roads were quickly closed to allow crews to make repairs.
In a statement to The Citizen Fortis BC confirmed that streets would soon be re-opening
“FortisBC crews have completed emergency repairs to our gas system in Prince George,” said a representative from FortisBC. Fifteenth Avenue between Freeman and Ewert were closed while our crews are on site to make the necessary repairs, is expected to reopen fully by 1 p.m. We appreciate the public’s patience while we made these repairs safely and as quickly as possible.”
FortisBC reminds people to call 911 if they smell rotten eggs or hear the sound of escaping gas and to go outside.
