The Fraser River in Prince George

On Saturday, July 9, Prince George Fire Rescue responded to Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park to a report of a person floating in the river.

Three halls responded to the call and RCMP members stationed themselves at strategic locations on the river to locate the person in the water visually.  A team of four water rescue firefighters deployed at Wiens Road using both of the department's Rapid Deployment Crafts.

The person was recovered from the water at the Cowart Road Pump Station. Due to the speed of the Fraser River the two RDC teams landed on shore at the base of Fox Ridge Drive.

Ambulance, RCMP, and a support team from Prince George Fire Rescue were waiting at the location to assist in bringing the victim and the equipment up the bank of the river.

No emergency personnel were injured in the rescue attempt and the cause of the incident is under investigation with the RCMP.

Prince George Fire Rescue would like to remind the public of the dangers of being near rivers at this time of year with the heavy debris load and fast floating currents.
