Four matches, four wins, one Prince George athlete on top of the podium.

That describes this past weekend for Tami Goto down at BCIT’s Burnaby campus for the 2019 Judo B.C. Senior Championships.

The Prince George Judo Club member won the gold medal by beating out five other competitors in the Senior Female -52kg category, which included Kimiko Kamstra of the Hart Judo Academy.

Goto came in first in the preliminary round, collecting 15 points from two fights and winning them both in under six-and-a-half minutes.

She defeated Klavdia Danilkov of the host-Burnaby Judo Club in the final.

Kamstra ultimately finished in third place with the bronze medal.

Hart Academy’s Brooke Corbett also fought in the same division as Goto and Kamstra.

Among the men, Matthias Schenk made the finals in the Senior Male -66kg category, but the Hart judoka settled for silver after losing to Mark Tan of Burnaby.

Devin Greenwood, also from the Hart Judo Academy, lost to teammate Schenk in the semi-final, but cruised through his consolation bracket to win the bronze.

As for what’s next, Goto is preparing for the 2019 Canadian Open Judo National Championships taking place in Edmonton May 16 to 19 at the University of Alberta.
