Who can’t resist a cold, refreshing glass of lemonade? Prince George, evidently.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC (BIGSNBC) says $6,133.44 was raised through this year’s Big Squeeze competition, which is a little more than half of 2019’s final count of $12,035.96.

It raises funds for BIGSNBC each year to help cover costs of operating programs, activity supplies, transportation if needed, snacks, support for 1:1 matches and group programs.

The Big Squeeze also witnessed a first in its eight-year history with two businesses crowned champions for 2020 in CrossRoads Brewery and Betulla Burning.

CrossRoads, by a last-minute donation, decided to contribute all of its lemonade cask proceeds to the fundraiser, which propelled them to a total of $1,046.

This was given after BIGSNBC had declared Betulla Burning the winner after bringing in $460 on Aug. 5, so the non-profit decided to award the trophy to both restaurants.

Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual rounded out the top three with $450 raised.

BIGSNBC says, in an email to PrinceGeorgeMatters, a total of $4,435.14 was brought in from the restaurant competitions, $1,220.30 from the sale of lemon items and under $500 from the ‘When Life Gives You Lemons’ Challenge.

As COVID-19 enforced certain restrictions this year, Big Squeeze was only limited to restaurants to keep the public safe.
