An investigation is ongoing, but Mounties in Prince George wasted no time catching a pair of robbery suspects this week.
RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper says police received a report of a robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Massey Drive, located at the Pine Centre Mall, yesterday morning (Feb. 2) at roughly 9:40 a.m.
Witnesses told officers a man and a woman left the drug store with a basket full of items.
When they were confronted by a security guard, the man brandished a hatchet at the officer, left the area with the woman and crossed Highway 97.
“Within ten minutes of police receiving the report, frontline members had the male suspect in custody," Cooper explains in a release.
"Two minutes later, police arrested the female suspect, as well. Prince George RCMP’s Police Dog Service team attended to assist in backtracking where the male suspect travelled and quickly located the discarded hatchet used in the robbery."
Cooper says the man was taken to the local detachment where he remains until a court hearing scheduled for today.
Robbery and resisting arrest charges are being recommended as he was also breaching two previous court-ordered conditions.
The woman was released without charges.
