A 28-year-old man has been approved of an assault charge involving a targeted stabbing in Prince George over the weekend.
RCMP confirm Jacob Johan Vanderminne was arrested in Grande Prairie, Alta. nearly 30 hours after they were called to a home on 1100-block Vancouver Street.
A man was found in the basement unit suffering from multiple stab wounds and, as he was deemed in critical condition, was immediately taken to University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC).
Vanderminne was brought into custody on Sunday (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
He has since been approved for one charge of Aggravated Assault by the B.C. Prosecution Service, a news release states this afternoon (Jan. 25).
In an earlier statement, Mounties said they believed this was a targeted attack in that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
Spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper commends the work of Prince George RCMP’s Investigative Support Team, Serious Crime Unit and frontline members leading to the arrest.
"Jacob Vanderminne’s arrest would not have been possible so quickly without information provided to police from the public."
Cooper adds the investigation is ongoing and more details may be released when available.
