The shelves at the Salvation Army food bank in Prince George are looking a little more full, thanks to a recent significant donation.
Kelson Group Property Management collected 500 pounds of non-perishable food items from its northern-capital residents on June 17 as part of its fourth Neighbours Feeding Neighbours fundraiser
The group’s Prince George branch was one of 10 across B.C. and Alberta to take part in the initiative, which brought in a ‘record-breaking’ 6,000 pounds of food to community food banks.
“We know in these COVID-19 times, many are struggling to make ends meet,” explains Kelson Group spokesperson Kelly Fawcett, “so to have such generosity displayed by our residents to help others in their communities is quite astounding!”
In addition, one of the residents of Kelson Group’s owned and operated apartments donated $500, to which the company matched the number for a total of $1,000 towards the Prince George Salvation Army.
According to a release, the annual drive encourages the business to donate $1 per pound of food, bringing the regional grand total to $6,000 for 2020.
“Seeing an event like this, where Kelson Group residents and staff work together to offer something so meaningful to the communities we live in, makes us all proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together,” said Fawcett.
“In a world where hunger permeates our neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces, and community at large, we could not think of a better area to support. We know these donations will have a big impact on others.”
