Prince George RCMP are asking the public for help after a fatal shooting Wednesday night in a downtown vacant lot across from the Victoria Medical Building.
Police are asking for anyone who was in the area between 11:35 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. to come forward with information. They are also seeking video footage from dash cams, cell phone footage or video surveillance systems for the same time period.
RCMP went to the scene at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday and began their search for a suspect. By Thursday morning, the area was taped off, with several cruisers parked nearby while officers and detectives probed the vacant lot.
“This appears to be a targeted attack; however, the investigation is at its preliminary stages and we continue to gather evidence,” stated RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper in a media release. "We ask that anyone who has information that may aid in this investigation, please contact a police officer by calling the Prince George RCMP non-emergency number at 250-561-3300
An unconfirmed report from a man near the scene said a man was shot and killed.
“Somebody shot him last night,” said the man, who did not offer his name.
Police investigators continued to work at the scene until midday Thursday.
No other details are available. This story will be updated as more becomes known.
If it is confirmed as a homicide it would be the third this year in Prince George.
