Members of the Prince George RCMP Victim Services Unit are looking to add more volunteers to their ranks.

The Prince George RCMP’s Victim Services Unit is calling on people to volunteer to offer critical support to victims and their families in need.

“These volunteers are among some of the most caring and supportive individuals I have ever worked with,” says Aralee Hryciuk, victim services co-ordinator. “We would love to welcome new faces to join our team to help continue providing a high level of support to those we serve.”

The Victim Services Unit is currently seeking volunteers for two specific roles: Court support and victim services support.

Court support volunteers assist clients at the courthouse Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and may be required for multiple days in a row. Their duties include providing emotional support to clients, helping them navigate the courthouse and liaising with Crown counsel on their behalf. The role also requires basic report writing and computer skills, with training provided to all volunteers.

Victim services support volunteers undergo 80 hours of in-office training, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once trained, they will be expected to log a minimum of two hours per week in the office, helping clients and assisting with community events like Canada Day celebrations, hockey games or information booths at public gatherings.

Both positions require a security clearance. Interested individuals can contact Hryciuk at 250-561-3328 for more information.
