School District 57 is home to one of the best teacher librarians in the province.
Leisbet Beaudry of Lac des Bois Elementary was named Teacher Librarian of the Year in October by the B.C. Teacher-Librarians' Association (BCTLA).
She presented her award to the board of education during the Dec. 5 public meeting.
The Diana Poole Memorial Award for Teacher Librarian of the Year is the highest honour the BCTLA bestows. The award recognizes practicing teacher librarians who are making an outstanding contribution to teacher librarianship and beyond.
“We, as a board, would like to say once again congratulations on your recognition,” said school board chair Tim Bennett.
“I received this award in October and it recognized the time I’ve spent developing the elementary school library with both English and French resources and a professional collection for the staff,” Beaudry told the board.
“I have also developed maker-space activities, including Lego puppets, video programs and I have taught in ADST, (Applied Design, Skills and Technologies) using hand tools. I have redesigned the library space I inherited, to welcome all users and have different kinds of activities there.”
Beaudry is also an advocate for using and purchasing authentic French language resources, rather than translated materials for immersion students. She has also coordinated three French author tours to the district.
“I’m just absolutely amazed at the work you’ve done. It’s extensive. Our district is lucky to have such a committed and dedicated teachers such as yourself,” said school trustee Sharel Warrington.
“What a difference you make for your students and, most important, for your colleagues and your colleagues across the province. On behalf of myself, I thank you very much for this very committed work and our students all benefit from the work of teacher librarians.”
