An 18-year-old man was pulled over by RCMP last week for driving 131 km/h in a 60 zone in Prince George.

On May 27, the Municipal Traffic Services team caught the teenager driving over twice the posted limit along a section of Foothills Blvd. while conducting speed enforcement in the area, issued him a $483 ticket, submitted a dangerous driver report to the B.C. Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, and the car was impounded for seven days.

Police add the vehicle wasn’t even his, which put a hefty price tag for the actual registered owner including the vehicle tow and storage bill.

This was one of several hundred cases of dangerous driving Mounties witnessed throughout the month of May, and are urging the public once again to watch your speed as they continue to conduct enforcement this Summer.

Last month, the RCMP’s campaign included:

  • 251 speeding violations
  • 36 drivers speeding through school zones
  • 11 excessive speeding violations with a vehicle impound
  • The story above is included in this statistic
  • 4 drivers with no consideration for others or proceeding without due care
  • 3 failing to slow down and move over for emergency response vehicles
  • 3 following other vehicles too closely

Prince George RCMP volunteers committed almost 75 hours in the community in May watching for speed violations, including a total of 4,734 vehicles observed, over half of those were driving over the posted speed limit.
