Mounties and investigators in Prince George are looking to speak to a logging truck driver following a fatal crash west of the city this week.
A man in his forties died of his injuries after a passenger vehicle and pick-up truck collided on Monday night (Feb. 22) east of Fraser Lake.
According to RCMP, around 5:30 p.m. that evening, RCMP from Fraser Lake and Vanderhoof, along with other first responders were called to Highway 16 near the Dry Williams Lake stop.
"Upon arrival, investigators learned that a westbound pickup truck was passing a logging truck using the passing lane but ran out of room, causing the pickup truck to enter into the oncoming lane where it collided head-on with an eastbound passenger car," said Cpl. Mike Halskov in a news release today (Feb. 24).
He goes on to say the drivers of each vehicle were taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, where a Lower Mainland man died and a 20-year-old Alberta man remains.
It's believed the westbound logging truck had stopped after the collision, but then left the scene before police arrived.
Prince George Regional Traffic Services (PGRTS) would like to speak to the driver and are hoping they may come forward with more information.
Anyone else who may have witnessed the fatal collision, including available dashcam footage is asked to call the PGRTS at 250-649-4004.
