A new Prince George brewery has taken home a provincial beer award.

The winners of the B.C. Beer Awards 2023 were announced Oct. 21 and Prince George brewery Deadfall Brewing took home first place in the specialty IPA category for its Cold IPA.

Powell Brewery came in second with Hop Juice and 4 Mile Brewing Co. with the Cole Island Session IPA came in third place.

The BC Beer Awards celebrates the best beer brewed in British Columbia. Last month, judges tasted 925 entries to find the province’s best examples of 29 different beer styles, from simple lagers to highly hopped IPAs and dense barrel-aged imperial stouts.

The big awards of the night went to Twin City Brewing of Port Alberni, which won brewery of the year, and Hoyne Brewing of Victoria, whose Dark Matter ale won best in show.

Located on Nicholson Street, Deadfall Brewing opened in June 2022, started by biologists Erin and Brandon Baerwald, and is the city’s newest and third microbrewery.

Deadfall’s beer menu includes six staples – Retrogression West Coast IPA, Succession New England IPA, Cache Kölsch, Persister Pale Ale, Basal American Brown Ale, Circinate Kettle Sour as well as seasonal options.
