A key player from the Duchess Park senior boys basketball team’s run to the 2020 B.C. AAA Championship final is rejoining a pair of Condors who flew south for college last year.
Jackson Kuc has committed to play for Vancouver Island University (VIU) for 2020-21 after leading his Prince George school on an unforgettable run in his Grade 12 season.
The point guard even combined for a team-high 78 points in four games at provincials in Langley back in March, including 24 in the gold medal-game loss to G.W. Graham.
"We are excited to add Jackson Kuc from Duchess Park to our program,” says VIU Head Coach Matt Kuzminski.
“He was a huge part of leading them to the AAA provincial final. Jackson is a great student and will compete to add depth at our point guard position."
The Mariners took on Soren Erricson and Dan Zimmerman after they propelled the Condors to a B.C. bronze medal in 2019, which Kuc played alongside the two alumni en route to that feat.
VIU won the national championship that same year at the CCAA level, which is one step below Canada West and U-Sports.
The Nanaimo-based program went 16-2 in the 2020 campaign, but settled for silver in the PACWEST Championship game upon losing to Douglas College.
Kuc posted a team-high 18 points in the 2020 city championship final in the Condors’ 66-43 triumph over D.P. Todd and a fifth-straight trophy.
