Prince Rupert RCMP have attended 10 break and enters since Oct. 10, mainly in residences on the west side of the community.

In one incident, a gold ring, two diamond rings, camcorder and wallet were taken after someone entered through an unlocked window, and unlocked the front door to leave.

In another incident, a wallet was stolen from a residence when a carport door had been left unlocked.

"What makes these break and enters particularly offensive is that they are occurring while people are asleep in their own homes. No one has been injured in these incidences, but there is still a strong sense of violation when a stranger enters your home and touches your personal belongings," said Cst. Erin Mary Stevenson, media relations officer.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to RCMP at 250-627-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
