Barb Claffey, left, and Kathy Nadalin, have organized the Prince and Princess Tea at the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre royally set for Saturday, June 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Perch a crown on top of those majestic locks, dress in royal finery and take the throne of the heir apparent during the fourth annual Prince and Princess Tea and Parade at the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

"The sandwiches will be crustless because princes and princesses don't eat crust because they're special," said Kathy Nadalin, one of the organizers of the event.

Family members and friends who accompany the princes and princesses are invited to get dressed up as well during the regal affair.

"As soon as the children come in they are given a free gift," said Barb Claffey, main organizer of the event. "There will also be refreshments."

Guests can enjoy tea, coffee, and punch as well as treats like cookies and cupcakes.

Games include musical chairs, a craft corner, fish pond, as well as a silent auction with items suitable for adults and children. There are door prizes and a candy count where best guest gets to take home the jar of candy.

The musical chairs will be played in different age categories and the craft corner will have items available so that children can make a card for their dad for Father's Day.

To try a hand at the fish pond it costs 50 cents and there's a handmade tote filled with goodies suitable for both girls and boys for a cost of $5 each. Nadalin sewed each of the cloth totes in order to keep the noble event as green as possible. Each tote contains things like stuffed animals, books and games.

There will be a free photo opportunity where families can cuddle up with a giant aristocratic teddy bear and parents are welcome to click away.

"One year we had two families attend with four generations each," said Nadalin, encouraging family members to come together.

"It's really a feel-good time," said Claffey. "Even our members come just to enjoy the event and be part of all the activities."

The parade takes place after the tea and all the children are invited to show off their imperial outfits as they are led by His Highness Bill Bosnich who will play the righteously ruling guitar.

All proceeds go to the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre operating costs.

All tickets are $5 and sold in advance at the Elder Citizens Recreation Association's centre, 1692 Tenth Ave. or by calling 250-561-9381 or 250-964-7124.
