The B.C. Northern Real Estate Board's voice is in the chorus calling on the provincial government to reduce so-called "shelter taxes" to make home ownership more affordable.
Industry representatives are lobbying Victoria to either eliminate the property transfer tax over three years or increase the threshold to $500,000 from $200,000 at which the tax's rate jumps to two from one per cent. The move would save a home buyer $3,000.
