School District No. 57 (SD57) officially has a new board of education as the trustee-elects have now been sworn in at the inaugural board meeting.
Erica McLean, Craig Brennan, Betty Bekkering, Gillian Burnett, Cory Antrim, and Bob Thompson all took the oath of office to officially become trustees.
Rachael Weber, the trustee for Mackenzie, was not able to attend the meeting in-person because of bad weather on the roads and was sworn-in virtually prior to the public board meeting.
The new board was also welcomed with a special greeting from Lheildi T’enneh Elder Darlene McIntosh and McLeod Lake Indian Band Elder Doris Leclair.
Once each trustee was sworn-in, the board elected trustee Weber as chair, followed by Craig Brennan as vice-chair.
Trustee McLean was elected to serve as the provincial councillor for the British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) followed by Cory Antrim as an alternate.
Trustee Bekkering was elected to serve on the BC Public School Employers Association with trustee Gillian Burnett as an alternate.
The first official public meeting of the new board won’t take place until December as the regular November meeting was cancelled in order to allow the new trustees to participate in an orientation to familiarize themselves with board operations.
