Mounties are investigating what may be arson following a fire on a rural Prince George property.
According to RCMP, Fire Rescue extinguished a blaze around 5 a.m. on Monday morning (Feb. 15) at a large detach shop on 5000-block Purdue Road East, to which the homeowner also stated they put out some smaller flames underneath the front deck.
An early assessment has led police to treat the investigation as arson.
There are currently no suspects and the Vanway-area homeowner also told RCMP they were home alone at the time of the structure fire.
"The Prince George RCMP would like to encourage anyone in the area with surveillance facing the road to look at their footage between 3:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on February 15th and to advise police if there is any unusual activity caught by their cameras," says spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper.
"Often it is just a small detail that can help give an investigation some direction."
The Prince George RCMP’s Fire Investigator also attended the location when police were called.
They conducted a parallel investigation with the Prince George Fire Rescue Service.
