Santa visits kids at hospital pediatric ward

Santa came straight from the North Pole to pay a special visit to the children at the pediatric unit of University Hospital of Northern B.C. on Wednesday morning.

Santa came straight from the North Pole to pay a special visit to the children at the pediatric unit of UHNBC Wednesday morning.

“The main reason for my visit at this time of the year is to let the children know that if they’re at the hospital on Christmas eve Santa knows where they are,” Jolly St. Nick said after he visited with some of the children. “It's important for them to know there will be gifts for them here on Christmas morning when they wake up.”

Santa was able to deliver early presents to some of the children who were able to have visitors.

“It’s special to receive a gift - especially before Christmas and that’s always very nice and of course the children are always very appreciative,” Santa said. “Mrs. Claus did all the wrapping and I was happy to bring a little smile to the children’s faces while they are here in the hospital.”

Grayson is four years old (in three days) and a patient at the hospital.

Santa gave Grayson a giant box filled with Lego. He was thrilled and started to play with the set immediately.

Dad Ben Courporeille said he it meant the world to him that Santa came to visit Grayson.

“We’ve been in the hospital for six days now and it’s been stressful for the whole family,” Courporeille said, who lives at Moberly Lake near Chetwynd.

“For Santa to come here and give a big present to him is awesome.”

Dr. Kirsten Miller, pediatrician on duty at the hospital, said she was happy to see Santa at her place of work.

She had to get a selfie with him.

“It’s not every day you get to see the real Santa who came straight from the North Pole,” Miller said with a grin.
