Two-and-a-half years after the Jim Pattison Group announced it would build a food supermarket at Pine Centre Mall, the new store is almost ready to open.
The grand opening friends and family ceremony at Save-On-Foods is set for next Wednesday afternoon from 4-7 p.m. and the store opens officially for business the following morning.
The project to build the 39,000 square-foot store started two years ago with the demolition of the former Lowes hardware store that closed in February 2020 when Lowes shut down most of its Canadian stores.
The new store, which is right off Highway 97 in a highly-visible area, will have a sit-down food service area known as Kitchen.
“You can’t buy a better location, we’re thrilled,” said store manager Regan Bader.
Bader said with more traffic anticipated and more services added, staffing levels will be close to double that of the Parkwood store.
Save-On-Foods will close its existing 42,000 sq-ft Parkwood Mall location at 1600 – 15th Ave. temporarily for renovations next Wednesday and plans to reopen that store in January 2024.
Save-On also has Prince George stores at Spruceland Mall, Hart Mall and College Heights Shopping Centre.
