Update: Environment Canada ended the severe thunderstorm watch at 7:26 p.m.
Could the sunny long-weekend weather take a turn?
Well, Environment Canada thinks so as it has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Prince George.
As of 10:12 a.m. on Aug 1 Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong winds gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
The weather is forecast to have a high of 25 C with a 40 per cent chance of showers beginning late this afternoon and a low of 13 C with showers or thunderstorms near midnight then clearing.
Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. The organization is also reminding people that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year and to remember, that when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.
